Creativity Is In Our Hearts

We so glad you visited our little shop to see what we are all about. I will start at the very beginning. Steven and I met online back when chat rooms were cool (almost 20 years ago). He made me laugh every day we were together and even on the days we were apart. He lived two hours away but would drive up after work on the weekends to see my daughter and me. I fell in love with his humor, his face, and his love for family. We were engaged 3 months later and married 6 months
after that.

Two weeks after we were married we found out we were adding to our ready-made family. God gave us a beautiful baby that was blessed with a cleft palate and many other medical issues. I say blessed because he is one amazing boy and has taught us so much. We lost a baby 7 months after our son was born but were once again given the chance to be parents again. Our rainbow baby is one rambunctious 16-year-old.

Having 3 kids on the autism spectrum hasn’t been easy. But neither one of us would ever trade them for anything. Through learning about life through our children’s eyes, we began to see the beauty that they see every day.

Steven has been in the design business for over 20 years and still designs print and develops websites full-time. I have always been a lover of all things crafty. I taught myself to sew among other fun creative genres. But when my dear husband bought me a silhouette for Christmas two years ago, it opened up a whole new world of possibilities. I would etch glass, create stencils to paint on tile, create vinyl decals to decorate our own home and so much more.

We bought a 97-year-old farmhouse at auction and spent years learning how to do everything from plumbing, framing, electric and so much more. Fast forward a few years and we are now equipped with so many tools in our garage from our construction days that we decided to come up with a way to put them to good use now that we are in a new home.

We started out with one pallet from a garden project that lead us to realize how much we enjoy creating with wood. He makes the signs and I do the painting. We are two peas in a pod and we love what we do.

We are Grace & Elm!
